How to Succeed in College Without Really Trying

I am sure you are all dying to know the fool-proof, no fail, guaranteed way to breeze your way through college and do well in all your classes with minimal effort on your part.

Well folks, you are in luck.
I am here tonight to share my secret with you. You ready? Because I don't think you are. But here we go anyways.

How to succeed in college without really trying:

you can't.

There you go; I said it. You cannot succeed in college without really trying. Or if you can I don't know what type of university you go to.. But it probably is not a very good education so you are wasting your time.
Anyways. My point is college is hard. Seriously. And this is coming from someone who is good at school! Not in a cocky, I-think-I'm-the-shiz way, but in a honest to goodness, some people-are-better-at-sports-and-I'm-good-at-school way.
Now, I am in no way saying college isn't worth it or isn't fun. Don't misunderstand me.

I LOVE GOING TO COLLEGE. I LOVE BYU. I LOVE LEARNING.

However. I am not as much of a fan at spending 9 am to 12:30 am the next day in the library, studying for finals nonstop, for two+ days. But that is sometimes what it takes to succeed in college.
It is 11:25 pm and I am still at it (except for this minor break to type this up so I can digest info and not go crazy.. ha)

I just thought I would do you the favor or warning you now, you know, for the emotional preparation it requires.

BYU Library at 11:30 on a reading day (open until 2 am. yikes. That is def more hardcore than me).

The other half the periodicals..

Other things I've discovered this year?
PLAN YOUR TIME. Serious. There are 24 hours in a day. Know what you're doing with them, but don't forget to include time for yourself! You need a couple breaks to keep yourself sane and healthy.
USE THE TAs. They are so so helpful and know exactly what you need to know! Don't waste time guessing.
DON'T PUT OFF TESTS AND PAPERS UNTIL THE LAST DAY
I know this is cliche and you have heard it a million times, but guy. Get your act together.
Honestly it is kind of a joke how empty the library can be on a reading day, designated for studying, and then jam packed while finals are going. Heellllloooo people. Study on the study days, test on the test days. No need to stress. There are no lines the first few days so you save a ton of time, plus the finals aren't getting any easier so why wait?
BRING A BIKE.
I brought mine two weeks ago and it was the best decision of my life. If I could redo anything from this year it would be have brought my bike at the beginning. I am being dead serious. I don't know why it makes life infinity times better, but it does, okay? Just trust me on that. You get wind through your hair and can get everywhere at least 7 times faster. Plus you get some killer thigh muscles.
EAT WELL AND EXERCISE
This is self explanatory.
Eat mainly fruits and veggies with whole grains, eggs, and lean meats. Oh and dairy. But not in the form of ice cream. All things in moderation. Word of Wisdom, you know?
Let's just say I am thee ONLY one of my roommates that has not gotten sick even once this entire year. They have all been sick like 3+ times.
You know who eats the most fruits and veggies?
I rest my case.
And go to the gym or go running or play some soccer! Just use your body and appreciate the cool things it can do. It's our greatest gift from God! Love your body.

And last, look good.
I mean, don't be obsessive of your appearance of judgmental of others, but for your own sake. Get up every morning and get ready. Make yourself presentable and feel confident so you can talk to people and people will want to talk to you and you will just feel better at life. DITCH THE SWEATPANTS. Besides, did you know you focus better and test better when you are dressed up?
True story.

Well. My ten minute break is up. I have a good 45 minutes left of studying before calling it quits and going home. The goal is to be in bed before 1 am. Wish me luck!

Tomorrow I am taking three tests. Saturday I am taking two and then I AM GOING HOME! For Easter, my best friend's farewell, Sunday dinner, and something else..
Oh yeah.
My birthday! woot woot. 19 and going strong.

Love Always, Aimee

Mondays are My Favorite

You heard me, Mondays are my favorite.
No sarcasm attached!
Why, you may ask?
It's quite simple really.
Missionaries. I love missionaries. And Monday is when the emails come and it's wonderful.

And I also love the high you're on from Sunday, I love planning out my week and seeing what's in store, and I love beginnings.
So yes.
Monday is one of my favorite days.
So have a Happy Monday! Be grateful for it.

Can you tell I am stalling starting my last paper for the semester?
kay cool. Haha I am convinced one of the biggest life skills you learn to master quickly in college or fail is time management. I am also sure there is lots of research to back me up on that.
Anyways.
Thanks for the distraction.

Love Always, Aimee

2+2+2+2

With only two days called the weekend, two days of classes, two days of studying, and then two days of testing left in this semester I have realized something that you would think would be obvious.
Time never slows and it definitely never stops.

I swear I was just having Christmas break and telling my friends on missions about the new classes I was taking. And then it was midterms and I was like "Holy cow! I can't believe we're halfway done!!" and now finals are at the door and I am having a panic attack.

How is it possible that it's basically been a year since I graduated? I remember it so clearly. Every detail. How is it possible that I haven't seen my very best friend in a month and she leaves on her mission in about twenty days? How is it possible that I turn NINETEEN in 10 days?? Saayy what? I still don't think I am old enough to be considered an adult.
Time at college is on hyperdrive, I swear. Every day is full of things that have to get done; classes, papers, studying, quizzes, tests, gym, cooking, cleaning, partying, sleeping, church activities and callings. I feel like I have changed so much in the last year that maybe my friends won't even recognize me anymore. But at the same time it feels like it's been no time at all since I've seen them when in reality it's been nine months for some.

I think the craziest thing is considering that I have missed a whole school year for my little brother and sister. Grade school years are an eternity long, I swear. They have probably changed and grown so much and I have hardly been there to see it. And next year I will be even more absent. Heck, for the first four months I will be living across the ocean and when I come back I will be busy applying to nursing school.

I suppose the real reason I am having a panic attack is because I really am growing up and moving out. Sure, I've lived away from home for nine months. But it's about to get even more distinct. It's going to get more real. I will be home for the month of July this summer and half of August. That's it. I am determined to enjoy every day of it because it just might be the last time I ever live there again.
And let's be real, we all know there is no place like home.

It other news, shout out to my favorite girls Sariah and Morgan for getting their mission calls!! Argentina and California; both Spanish speaking. They will be amazing and I just adore them. That's all.

Also the Happiest of Birthdays to my favorite brothers!! 14 and 21 never looked so good.

Love Always, Aimee

P.S. 53 days until Elder Erickson's return! Woot woot. 147 days until my trip to London. Here we go.

Come What May

So. I don't think I have ever mentioned this, but I teach Sunday school in my YSA ward.
It is actually mildly terrifying for me at times. But the Lord knows what he's doing, right? I must need to learn how to teach or stand in front of people or something.
Anyways. Last Sunday the lesson had more impact on my life than usual so I figured I should share.

This is the main thought that I am getting from it:

I love this. It was said by Joseph B. Wirthlin and I suggest you go look up the full talk because it is phenomenal.

I am thinking I will adopt this as my life motto though…

Come what may and love it.

Life is a rollar coaster. Really, every day can be a roller coaster. Ups, downs, drops you weren't expecting, sharp turns, maybe even a few moments where you are temporarily upside down and think you might just die. But that is the excitement and appeal of it!

Life can look like a mess to us. But I believe that is because we are not the creators here. Heavenly Father is the one in charge and the only one who can see the whole painting of our life. He knows the beginning and the end and everything in-between. It is so incredibly vital that we trust him with all our hearts and turn to him in everything. One of my favorite scriptures is in Alma 37:37 where it tells us to counsel with the Lord in all our doings so that he may direct our paths for good.
He is there and knows the way. He wants to direct us, He wants us to enjoy our life and learn and grow. That is the whole point of our existence!

During our hardest times and through the worst trials, Christ is by our side. He has been there before and will lead us through it if we allow him too. It really is just an issue of pride. People have gotten into this terrible mindset where they think if they admit to needing help they are weak. Or if they need to cry over something devastating they are lacking faith. THAT IS FALSE. It's okay to cry for a moment and take a breather. It's okay to accept help from others and ask for help from out Heavenly Father! We are just humans. All of us are just. humans.

So. Stop trying to pretend like you can do anything and no one can touch you. Start turning to the Father and Son for strength. Because with God, anything is possible. And he wants you to feel the peace and joy that comes from having Christ as the center and anchor to your life..

So. Come what may and Love it. Because God is there with you and will direct you if you allow him. You will grow and become who he needs you to be.
That's all for now.

Love Always, Aimee
